Retrospective Exhibition: Sheila Symington

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Sheila Symington on April 24, 2022 at the age of 95. Sheila was a talented artist who for decades was very involved in the White Rock and South Surrey art community. She had a brilliant creative mind and was a taskmaster who knew how to get things done. No job seemed to be beyond her ability. In 1993 Sheila co-founded the volunteer international White Rock Summer School of the Arts which ran for 15 years. Thanks to Sheila and many volunteers within the community, they were able to present the City of Surrey with a $250,000 cheque towards building the community art centre. We will always remember the sound of her distinctive laughter.

This video shows her creative spirit when she was named a Surrey Civic Treasure in 2011.

Join us at our Turnbull Gallery on Saturday, June 18, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm for an Opening Celebration of Sheila’s Art exhibition. Speeches at 2:00 pm. This Retrospective Exhibition and sale of her art will remain on display until Friday, July 15th.
